A colony has a stockpile of resources and a location for this stockpile.

The default location is always the ship's wreck.

Once you have constructed storage buildings, you may assign some resources to this storage.

Having a separate storage increases storage space, reduces risk of spoiling storage events and theft during the Colonization Day, and allows for better security for your colony.
