During the Scanning phase, while your Pilot try to keep your ship safe and to reach the nearby Planet, you can order your Scan officer to scan your destination. Scanning the Planet allows to identify its characteristics like its size, climate, and temperature. Different type of Scans are available, depending on the technology available on your ship.

Your Scan officer skills will determine the speed and and the completeness of each scan. Her/his Signals & Radar (SRT) and Spaceships ranks will determine how fast the scan report will be generated. The precision and completeness of the report will be determine by a different set of skills, depending on the type of Scans selected.

During the Scan, the Scan officer will make a test for each Planetary feature matching the range of the selected Scan. For example, in case of PRIMSCAN, the Scan officer will make a test for the basic landscape, the number of regions, and for the landing sites.

Each Planetary feature has a specific difficulty to be detected. These difficulties can be Easy (30), Normal (50), Hard (80) or Elite (120). Note: In the current Alpha version there are no Elite hidden features. Specific elements, like a specific lifeforms, or a specific landing site, may have an individual difficulty higher than the Planet standard difficulty for this feature. For example, in the case of PRIMSCAN, some landing sites may be more difficult to detect than others.

PRIMSCAN is used in order to identify potential landing sites as well as general information regarding the planet. It requires Signals & Radar (SRT) as Primary skill, and Piloting, Planetary Expertise, Awareness as Secondary skills.

CFR is used in order to identify the Research potential of the Planet, as well as the potential lifeforms. It requires Science as Primary skill, and Open Mindness, Planetary Expertise, SRT as Secondary skills.

CFP is used in order to identify the Profit potential of the Planet, which include identifying the Planet's mineral resources and potential production sites. It requires Administration as Primary skill, and Open Mindness, Planetary Expertise, SRT as Secondary skills.

CFP is used in order to identify the Habitability potential of the Planet, which include identifying the Planet's characteristics affecting the survival of a human population. It requires Planetary Expertise as Primary skill, and Open Mindness, Science, SRT as Secondary skills.

Require: Ark technology

ARKSCAN works as the CFR scan but is more efficient, reducing the difficulty for each test by -10. It requires Science as Primary skill, and Open Mindness, Planetary Expertise, SRT as Secondary skills.

Require: Broken Scanner module

When your Scanner module fails, the Emergency Scan is your last chance to identify potential landing site and information on the planet. It requires Awareness as Primary skill, and Science, Planetary Expertise, SRT as Secondary skills.

Require: Tatscan module

Tatscan will not be tested on a Planet in the current version.
