In the events that unfolded in 2325, an extraterrestrial unidentified force attacked all human-settled planets and space stations, wiping most of mankind in just several hours.

This was the first time an alien intelligent species was encountered and for humans this was the “First Contact” ; it seems obvious that the Aliens, however, had well studied humans and their settlements a long time before this attack.
